Bonjour a tous! It fills me with joy to be able to show you how to create these flowers… but also how I choose my colors (I’ll show you how I make color cards which I find very useful for quickly finding a great color scheme) and how to apply all that we have learned experimenting with simple flower shapes to a more complicated portrait.

I’m also hoping to encourage you how to observe and “see” the small worlds contained in flowers and nature at large. To observe how the light goes through the petals or just highlights the edge of them. To see the trail of pollen dusting the petals and the air as a fat bumblebee takes off.

Nature is marvelous and magical and I hope you’ll join me in this class so that we can make magic of our own and share it with the world!

xo,

Marie-Laure Delage-Carlson

Here's a description of each of our special projects:

Lesson 1 - EXPLORING THE GARDEN

Using beautiful organic floral shapes we will be exploring different color schemes using watercolors, inks, salt, watercolor pencils and a bit of granulation medium. This will be a wonderful introduction to these mediums and an opening of our hearts to the expressive nature of flowers. Get ready to learn how to use paint in some brand new ways!

Lesson 2 - blossom

In this enchanting lesson, we will be more intentional in our application and bring forth a more representational blossom.

This bloom will be vibrant and full of the energy of Spring! I'll also introduce you to how I use a granulation medium too! You are going to love these fresh techniques!

Lesson 3 - Dark Heart

Some of the most beautiful blooms are rich and deep in hue - mysterious and dark, dramatic and dynamic! In this lesson, we will explore these and see what happens when our colors merge and blend. By bouncing bright colors against the dark, we create minature galaxies of floral delight!

I'll be guiding you through the use of the gorgeous duo-chrome watercolors from Daniel Smith! You will adore these!

Lesson 4 - Love in a Mist

For the first time, we’ll try to represent a more realistic flower shape and colors…with a beautiful dash of added magic, of course!

Observing, sketching and painting flowers is one of my passions and brings me so much peace. I can't wait to share my process with you. Once you learn how to capture the essence of a flower on paper you will find yourself doing it again and again!

Lesson 5 - Spring Goddess

As a special treat, we will bring forth an expressive Spring Goddess, who will embody all the techniques you have learned along the way in this class.

A multitude of mediums will be used from watercolors, shimmery inks, pencils, charcoal, granulation medium, brou de noix (walnut ink) and MORE! She was a joy to paint and I look forward to sharing her creation with you!
